Important Program Change

9th Mar 2010

The director of the film Oy Vey! My Son is Gay! has elected to remove his film from the 2010 Melbourne Queer Film Festival program. The session will be replaced by a second screening of the wonderful Italian film, David's Birthday (Il Compleanno). Members who have purchased Golden Toffee Passes will be informed as a courtesy via email, and members who have purchased tickets to that session will be informed and offered an alternative session if they wish. Ticket purchasers who have purchased tickets to Oy Vey! My Son is Gay! may use that ticket for entry to the replacement film David's Birthday (Il Compleanno).

Ticket exchanges can be made at either of the ticket outlets - ACMI Box Office and Hares and Hyenas, or at the MQFF Box office from 5.30pm Thursday March 18 up until Wednesday March 24 at 5.30pm.

Golden Toffee A Favourite

6th Mar 2010

Almost a hundred people already have sticky fingers as those keen to see as much of the festival as is humanly possible have snatched up the limited number Golden Toffee Passes released for this festival. There are less than ten left and those are expected to go within the next couple of days.

The passes automatically reserve a seat for each holder in every session of the festival as well as getting them into the opening and closing nights.

The festival is delighted with the result and is gearing up for an amazing opening at the Astor on the 17th.

Program Launch Party

26th Feb 2010

With a red carpet entry, cameras flashing and everybody talking the launch of the festival program began with a bumper crowd of film makers, guests and members. The buzz was then hushed by the premiere of the new trailer followed by speeches from our co-convenors, Claire Jackson and Tony Harding. The Honourable Lord Mayor Robert Doyle followed with a rather entertaining speech about the Festival’s contribution to the City of Melbourne’s cultural diversity. The crowd was then treated with the new very fun ad from our presenting partner, Volkswagen: the genius of a car ad without a car in it.

Lisa Daniel finished off with a thorough list of thanks and a frolic through the program with some hot tips for best sellers and quirky outsiders with a segue into a brief taste of the City of Melbourne Oz Shorts program.

Much schmoozing and clinking of glasses followed with a lovely set of tunes from the DJ Ambie Dextrus. Towards the end of the night the police arrived including an Assistant Commissioner and one of our lovely community liaison officers – as it happens they were attending another function in the city, saw what was going on and decided to pop in.

Thanks to our amazing volunteers for the help on the night, our wonderful hosts, ACMI and all our members and guests for making it a fun event.

Pride March 2010

16th Feb 2010

Pride 2010

Something was in the air at this year's Pride March, and it was more than just the scent of sizzling sunshine and sweaty skin.

MQFF supporters came out in droves, enthusiastically claiming the streets of St Kilda, declaring pride and promoting the upcoming queer film festival, cheerily spreading the love with highlights guides and stickers galore!

And in spite of the sweltering conditions, everyone who marched couldn't help but notice a wonderful sense of unity and celebration, which went down a treat with the strong crowd and uplifting parade dynamics all round.

The whole event from the march through to the after party in Catani Gardens was nothing short of superb. Our sincerest thanks to all the brilliant vollies who supported MQFF at this year's Pride - your efforts and input are very much valued and appreciated, without whom, such an event would not be the same!
